Round Robin Generator

Generate a round robin schedule for 3 to 24 players or teams. Every entrant meets every other exactly once, odd counts get a fair bye, and you can split matches across courts or tables.

Enter 3 to 24 entrants above, then generate a schedule.

How it works

Paste or type your list of entrants, one per line (commas also work), then generate the schedule. The generator pairs everyone up round by round using the standard "circle method" so that every entrant plays every other entrant exactly once over the whole schedule. If you have an odd number of entrants, one entrant sits out each round as the bye — shown right in the schedule — and over the full schedule every entrant gets exactly one bye. If you add a number of courts or tables, each round's matches are spread across them, and a round with more matches than courts splits into consecutive time slots so no one is ever double-booked. Your entrant list and settings are saved in your browser, so they're still here if you reload the page.

Use this generator for a league night, a club tournament, or any event where you want every player or team to face each other exactly once before you settle standings. It works for anywhere from 3 to 24 entrants.

Using courts or tables

If your venue has more than one court or table, enter how many you have and the schedule splits each round’s matches across them. A round with more matches than you have courts is broken into consecutive time slots instead, so you always know exactly who plays where and when, and no entrant is ever booked for two matches at once.

Printing or sharing the schedule

The generated schedule is plain text, so you can copy it straight into a message or a spreadsheet, or print this page to hand out a paper copy at the venue — only the schedule itself prints, not the entry form.

Frequently asked questions

What is a round robin?

A round robin is a tournament format where every entrant (player or team) plays every other entrant exactly once. No one is eliminated along the way — the schedule is fixed in advance, and standings are usually decided by win/loss record or points after every match has been played.

How many games does a round robin take?

With n entrants, a full round robin is n(n-1)/2 total matches. For example, 8 entrants play 28 matches, and 12 entrants play 66. With an even number of entrants it takes n-1 rounds to fit everyone in; with an odd number it takes n rounds, because one entrant sits out each round.

How do byes work with an odd number of entrants?

When there's an odd number of entrants, there's no way to pair everyone up every round, so one entrant sits out — the bye — each round. This generator rotates the bye automatically so every entrant sits out exactly once across the whole schedule, and shows who has the bye in each round rather than leaving it a mystery.

How is a round robin different from single elimination?

Single elimination knocks a player or team out after one loss, so most entrants play only a handful of matches before they're out. A round robin has no elimination — everyone plays every other entrant once, which takes more total matches but gives a much fairer read on who the strongest entrant really is, since one bad match doesn't end your tournament.
