Cornhole Scoreboard: Cancellation Scoring Tracker

A free cornhole scoreboard with cancellation scoring built in. Enter bags on the board or in the hole for each side, track the running score to 21, and turn on an optional bust rule.

Bust rule (optional, off by default)

Neither the ACO nor the ACL plays with this rule — it's a common backyard house rule. Leave it off for standard scoring.

How it works

Name your two sides (or leave the defaults, Red and Blue) and decide whether to turn on the optional bust rule, then start the game. After each round, count up what landed for each side - how many bags ended up resting on the board, and how many went in the hole - and enter those two numbers per side on the keypad. Tap "Submit round" and this scoreboard does the cancellation math for you: it adds up each side's raw points (1 per board bag, 3 per hole bag), then awards only the difference to whichever side scored more, and nothing to either side on a tie. Running totals update automatically, and the first side to reach 21 or more at the end of a round wins. If you turned on the bust rule, a round that would push a side strictly over 21 sends that side back down to 15 instead of winning - reaching exactly 21 still wins outright either way. "Undo last round" removes the most recent round and recalculates both totals from what remains. Everything is saved in your browser, so a reload picks up exactly where you left off.

Cornhole scoring runs on cancellation, and the arithmetic is simple one round at a time but easy to lose track of after a dozen rounds in the backyard. This scoreboard handles the running totals for you: enter what landed on the board and in the hole for each side, and it works out cancellation, tracks the race to 21, and applies an optional bust rule if your group plays with one.

What counts as a round

Count up all 8 bags once they’ve stopped moving - 4 per side. A bag resting anywhere on the board scores 1 point; a bag that went through the hole scores 3 points; anything that missed the board entirely or ended up on the ground scores 0 and isn’t entered at all. Enter each side’s board count and hole count on the keypad after every round.

Cancellation, scored automatically

Only one side scores per round. This scoreboard totals each side’s raw points for the round, then awards the winning side just the difference - the same math worked through step by step on the cornhole rules page. A tied round scores zero for both sides, and the running totals simply carry over unchanged.

The optional bust rule

Standard cornhole, under both the ACO’s and the ACL’s published rules, has no bust: you win the moment your total reaches or passes 21, with no penalty for going over by a point or by a lot. This scoreboard follows that by default. If your group plays the backyard variant where overshooting 21 sends you back down to 15 instead, turn on the bust-rule checkbox before you start - it’s off unless you choose it, and you can see at a glance in the scoreboard header whether it’s active for the game you’re playing.

Frequently asked questions

How does this scoreboard calculate cancellation scoring?

After you enter both sides' board and hole bag counts for the round, it adds up each side's raw points (1 point per bag on the board, 3 per bag in the hole), then subtracts the lower total from the higher one. Only that difference is added to the higher-scoring side's running total; the other side gets nothing that round. If both sides' raw totals are equal, neither side's score changes.

Is the bust rule official cornhole scoring?

No. Both the American Cornhole Organization and the American Cornhole League play to 21 with no penalty for going over - you just need to reach or pass 21 to win. The bust rule here (going over 21 sends you back to 15) is a common backyard house rule, which is why this scoreboard ships it off by default and only applies it if you turn it on before starting the game.

What happens if a side lands on exactly 21?

That side wins immediately, whether or not the bust rule is turned on. The bust rule only affects a round that pushes a side's total strictly past 21 - landing exactly on the target score is always a normal win.

Do I need to sign up or install anything to use this scoreboard?

No. There's no account and nothing to install - just open the page on your phone and start entering rounds. Your game state saves to your browser automatically, so locking your phone or reloading the page between rounds won't lose your score.
